What each flight status actually means for you
Two flights can both read "delayed" and mean entirely different things for the person waiting downstairs. Here is how to translate the board into a decision.
On time
The aircraft is tracking to its scheduled arrival, give or take a few minutes. Plan from the scheduled time, then add your clearance and baggage estimate.
Early arrival
Favourable winds and light traffic can land a transatlantic flight twenty to forty minutes ahead of schedule. Early is not always good news on the ground — it is the most common reason a passenger waits for their ride.
Delayed
A revised estimate has been issued. Watch whether the estimate keeps moving in ten-minute increments — rolling delays usually indicate the aircraft has not yet departed its origin.
Landed vs. at gate
"Landed" means wheels down, not doors open. Taxiing at Pearson can add five to fifteen minutes during peak banks, before anyone reaches the aisle.
Cancelled
Contact the airline before leaving for the airport. Rebooking often shifts a passenger to a different terminal, a different carrier and occasionally a different day.
Diverted
Weather or capacity can send a YYZ-bound aircraft to Hamilton, London or Ottawa. The passenger may return by air or by road, so ground transportation has to be reconsidered entirely.
Terminal 1 or Terminal 3: knowing before you land
Pearson operates two passenger terminals. Meeting someone at the wrong one costs roughly twenty minutes and a great deal of goodwill, so it is worth confirming while the aircraft is still in the air.
Terminal 1
Home to Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners, including United, Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian and Turkish Airlines. Most long-haul Air Canada arrivals clear here.
Arrivals are reached on the arrivals level, with pre-arranged and limousine pickup handled separately from the taxi rank.
Terminal 3
Serves WestJet, Porter, Delta, American Airlines, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Air Transat and a number of leisure carriers.
Terminal 3 arrivals halls are more compact, which makes an agreed meeting point especially useful during busy evening banks.
Moving between terminals
The automated LINK train connects Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 and runs continuously. Allow roughly ten to fifteen minutes door to door once walking distance inside each terminal is included. Airlines occasionally move between terminals seasonally, so treat your boarding pass and the airport's own listing as the final word.
Arrival to curb: when will they actually appear?
Landing time is not pickup time. Between wheels down and the arrivals doors sit taxiing, disembarkation, border clearance and baggage. This planner turns a landing time into a realistic window.
These are planning estimates drawn from typical Pearson clearance patterns, not guarantees. Holiday periods, wide-body arrival banks and irregular operations can extend them. When Obsidian Ride handles the pickup, this calculation is performed for you and revised as the flight moves.
What to do when the status changes mid-journey
Your flight is delayed
- Note whether the delay is at the origin or en route — an aircraft that has not yet departed carries more uncertainty than one already airborne.
- Tell whoever is collecting you as soon as the estimate moves, not when you land.
- If the delay pushes past midnight, confirm that your ground transportation still holds. Many services quietly release late-night bookings.
A pre-arranged chauffeur reservation is monitored against the flight itself, so the dispatch time shifts without you having to ask.
Your flight is cancelled
- Contact the airline immediately; rebooking capacity is allocated in the order it is requested.
- Check whether the new itinerary lands at a different terminal or a different airport entirely.
- Confirm your baggage will travel on the same rebooked flight.
- Update your ground transportation with the new flight number rather than the new time alone — the number is what monitoring is keyed to.
Your flight lands early
The quiet problem. A passenger who lands thirty minutes ahead of schedule and clears customs quickly can be standing at the doors before a scheduled pickup has left. Fatigue and an early arrival together produce the worst airport experiences.
Ground transportation that watches the estimate rather than the timetable simply moves earlier.
Your terminal changes
Equipment swaps and irregular operations can reassign an arrival between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 with little notice. Confirm the terminal after landing, before you commit to a meeting point.
If your chauffeur is already positioned, the repositioning is theirs to manage — not yours.
Your flight schedule may change. Your ground transportation should adapt with it.
Every Obsidian Ride airport reservation carries a flight number, and that number is monitored from the moment it is confirmed. The point is not the technology. The point is that nobody has to send a message from an aisle seat to renegotiate a pickup.
The flight is attached
Your airline and flight number are recorded with the reservation. From then on, the schedule that matters is the aircraft's, not the one you typed in when booking.
Dispatch follows the estimate
Departure delays, revised arrival estimates and terminal reassignments are reviewed against your pickup, and the chauffeur's departure time is adjusted accordingly.
Complimentary waiting time
Arrivals include a grace period after landing, extended for international flights where border clearance is unpredictable. Delays outside your control should not become a charge.
Met at the doors, not messaged from a parking lot
The moments after clearing customs are when airport travel most often goes wrong: an unfamiliar terminal, a phone still searching for a network, luggage that has grown heavier over eleven hours, and a message asking you to find a vehicle somewhere outside.
Obsidian Ride's meet-and-greet places your chauffeur inside the arrivals hall with a name board before you reach it. Luggage is taken, the route is already chosen, and the only decision left to you is whether you would like the cabin quiet.
- Chauffeur positioned in arrivals with a personalised name board
- Luggage assistance from the hall to the vehicle
- Terminal-specific meeting point confirmed before you land
- Curbside pickup available where preferred
Travelling for business
Executive arrivals are handled as part of a schedule rather than a single trip: monitored flights, priority dispatch and consolidated invoicing for finance teams.
Travelling with family or a group
Passengers, luggage and child seats decide the vehicle long before anything else does. Larger parties stay together in one vehicle rather than splitting across cars.

Toronto Pearson flight status questions
How do I check the status of a flight at Toronto Pearson?
Enter the airline code and flight number in the lookup above — for example AC118 for Air Canada or WS1201 for WestJet. You will see the scheduled time, the current estimate, the terminal and the live status. For a flight departing more than a day from now, the schedule is published but no live estimate exists yet.
How long after landing does a passenger reach the arrivals doors?
For a domestic arrival with carry-on only, twenty to thirty minutes is typical. Domestic with checked bags usually runs thirty to forty-five minutes. International arrivals requiring border clearance and baggage commonly take forty-five to seventy-five minutes, and longer during peak evening banks or holiday periods. The planner above estimates a window for your specific arrival.
Does my chauffeur wait if my flight is delayed?
Yes. Your reservation is monitored against your flight number rather than the time you originally entered, so a delayed arrival moves the dispatch time rather than cancelling the pickup. Arrivals include complimentary waiting time after landing, with a longer allowance for international flights where clearance times are less predictable.
What happens if my flight arrives early?
The pickup moves earlier. Because monitoring follows the revised estimate rather than the published timetable, an aircraft landing thirty minutes ahead of schedule simply results in an earlier dispatch. Passengers should not be waiting because their flight performed well.
What if my flight is cancelled after I have booked a chauffeur?
Contact 24/7 dispatch with your new flight number as soon as the airline rebooks you. Providing the flight number rather than the new time allows monitoring to resume immediately, including any change of terminal or arrival date.
Which terminal will my flight arrive at?
Air Canada and Star Alliance carriers generally use Terminal 1, while WestJet, Porter, Delta, American Airlines, Air France, KLM, British Airways and Air Transat generally use Terminal 3. Assignments can change seasonally or during irregular operations, so confirm against your boarding pass and the live board on the day of travel.
Where does a pre-arranged chauffeur meet me at Pearson?
Pre-arranged and limousine pickups are handled separately from the taxi rank. With meet-and-greet, your chauffeur waits inside the arrivals hall with a name board; with curbside pickup, you receive the specific door and meeting point for your terminal before you land.
Can I book a Pearson pickup for a flight that has not been scheduled yet?
Yes. Reservations can be made well in advance and the flight number added or amended later. Airlines occasionally adjust schedules months ahead, and monitoring picks up the revised time automatically once the flight is attached.
